Who was Maria Montessori?

The method of education which is referred to as The Montessori Method is based on the theories and teachings of Dr. Maria Montessori. Dr Montessori was born in Italy on August 31, 1870. She was the first woman in Italy to earn a degree in medicine. Through her interest in child development, her observations and her didactic materials, Montessori developed a method of education which was revolutionary. She travelled to many places around the world giving lectures about her method, and her results. Today there are schools all around the world which follow the Montessori Method of teaching.
